Veronica Krijanovski is an independent journalist and writer whose work focuses on politics, press freedom, and the cultural fabric of post-Yugoslav Europe. She reports from the ground — in courtrooms, border crossings, election halls, and the kind of village squares that rarely appear in international coverage.
Her long-form work has appeared in The Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, Le Monde Diplomatique, Columbia Journalism Review, and n+1, among others. She was a 2024 fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford.
Before going independent, she spent six years as a staff correspondent at Vreme, Serbia’s oldest independent weekly, where she covered the region’s contested elections and the slow contraction of civic space across the Western Balkans.
She is currently working on a long-form series on democratic backsliding and media capture in Southern Europe, supported by a grant from the European Journalism Centre.
